Pycnogenol ® improves the visible signs of aging

In a recent clinical trial conducted in Germany, taking 75mg of Pycnogenol® improved visible signs of skin ageing in women aged 55 to 68. The study, published in the journal Skin Pharmacology and Physiology, revealed that after 12 weeks’ supplementation with Pycnogenol®, the women saw improvements in skin hydration and elasticity. The Pycnogenol® significantly improved their collagen content (by at least 29%), particularly type 1 collagen (41%). In addition, production of hyaluronic acid increased by around 44% and skin elasticity by 25%. The women also reported decreased signs of skin tiredness and wrinkles and an increase in skin smoothness.
This study confirms earlier findings that Pycnogenol®, an extract of bark of the French maritime pine tree, is an effective cosmetic supplement with many skincare benefits: strong antioxidant potency, increased skin elasticity, anti-inflammatory activity, improved microcirculation of the skin, anti-photoageing effects and reduced skin pigmentation.
