Sytrinol®, a safe and effective alternative to statins
Whether synthetic or natural, statins are extremely effective at lowering cholesterol levels. However, not everyone can tolerate these molecules and for those seeking side-effect-free alternatives, natural options can be easily substituted for statins, Sytrinol® being a particular case in point.
A third of our blood cholesterol comes from the diet and two-thirds from endogenous synthesis by the liver. By inhibiting HMG CoA reductase, a liver enzyme required for endogenous cholesterol production, Sytrinol® addresses the very source of the problem.
Its considerable efficacy at combating moderately elevated cholesterol levels has been demonstrated in clinical trials. After just three months’ supplementation by study participants, researchers noted a significant decrease in various parameters likely to increase risk of cardiovascular disease. Total cholesterol had fallen by 30%, LDL-cholesterol by 27%, triglycerides by 34% and apolipoprotein B (apo B), considered a reliable marker of cardiovascular risk, by 21%. Alongside these decreases, they reported a 4% rise in HDL (‘good’) cholesterol and an improvement in the LDL/HDL ratio of around 30%.
In addition to these very encouraging results, researchers have highlighted other benefits from the composition of this patented nutraceutical. Sytrinol® is actually a potent mix of substances derived from citrus and palm fruits:
- firstly, it contains compounds called tocotrienols which are part of the vitamin E family. With outstanding antioxidant potency, these help protect blood vessel walls from the deleterious effects of excess free radicals which promote atheromatous disease,
- and secondly, it contains polymethoxylated flavones such as tangeritin and nobiletin from grapefruit, lemon and tangerine. These have excellent anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce C-reactive protein (CRP), a common inflammatory marker of cardiovascular disease risk.
Therefore, when combined with a Mediterranean-type diet, centred around fruits and vegetables, high in unsaturated fats (oilseeds, olive and rapeseed oils, oily fish) and low in saturated and trans fatty acids, daily supplementation with 300mg of Sytrinol® can:
- significantly help improve an unhealthy blood lipid profile by regulating overproduction of hepatic cholesterol, and also
- inhibit inflammation and oxidation, two of the principal risk factors in cardiovascular disease.
