Lutéine, zéaxanthine et santé de l'œil
La lutéine et la zéaxanthine, deux caroténoïdes antioxydants, jouent un rôle particulièrement important dans le maintien de la santé de l'œil. Ces deux nutriments constituent le pigment maculaire, au centre de la rétine où ils filtrent la lumière bleue et neutralisent les radicaux libres. Travaillant sur des cultures de cellules d'œil, des chercheurs ont montré que la lutéine et la zéaxanthine protégeaient les cellules de l'œil des radicaux libres. Cette protection était encore renforcée lorsque ces deux caroténoïdes étaient combinés avec des vitamines C et E et d'autres antioxydants.
